"Big Bro." my oldest child and only male version has always had a one track personality. When he was about 18 months old he loved tools. He like to watch MBC fix things. He watched Bob Villa on T.V. (I'm not kidding he liked This Old House better than Sesame Street) He had little play tools and that's the only toys he would touch.
When he got to be about three MBC started working part time for a volunteer fire department and "Big Bro." discovered firemen. He loved nothing but fire trucks and to dress up like a firefighter. About 6 months to a year into that obsession he got a firefighter Rescue Hero(Billy Blazes) and that obsession started. He watched their cartoons and played with Rescue Heroes all day everyday. Since then he's had He-Man and Spiderman and Cowboys, GI Joe's, Lego's, many different interests, but always one at a time. It wasn't until about 8 years old that he discovered that he could like more than one thing at a time. For the last two years I've thought that he was finally starting to become a well rounded kid. That was of course until last weekend when he spent his paper route pay check on Rock Band for our Wii. Now... he has Rock Band Fever!
The problem.... the rest of the family has Rock Band Fever as well. (For those who don't know, Rock Band is like Guitar Hero, you follow cues on your t.v. screen to play the right notes to a song, except it also has a drum set and microphone. You can compete against each other on the same instrument [ if you have duplicates, which we haven't bought yet] or different people can play each part and make up a band)
The biggest problem is... I like it too! Sunday my my family was supposed to go to a Homecoming for MBC's aunt and uncle who served a mission for our church. There was a big family dinner and I was really excited to see them after 3 years, but when the first Perfectly Wonderful Pew decided to come down with the stomach bug, I stayed home with her. I could have read or done some light chores, you know something productive, but what did I do? I did a solo drum tour. I played for an hour and a half! 30 songs!! But I mastered Easy Mode and unlocked 6 songs, which really excited "Big Bro" when he got back home. (It's disgusting when you really think about it.)
The only upside I can think of, is I now have something to hold over my PWP's heads. Yesterday they wanted to play all day (We were still getting over the stomach bug so I said, "No friends yet.") so we worked out a compromise. One song, then unload the dishwasher, one song, then clear the counters. One song, then pick up the Living room floor. One song... you get the picture. The living area of my home was the cleanest it's been in weeks!
Do you think that maybe we have addictive personalities?

Whatever works. The cleanest house ever is nothing to be trifled with!
Hi Shimmy! Wow, you're turning Rock Band on us! This is so cute - wish I could hear ya'll! Well, I'm glad your having such a good time! Yes, the girls will play when the Daddy is gone.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)
HA HA! Looks like a LOT OF FUN!!! You ought to make a video of them Singing & Rockin the house and put it on here! :)
Additions are FUN! That's why they're addictive. And now, you've turned this one to the side of Good. How can that be a bad thing? Play away, I say!
Sounds like win-win to me. Lots of fun with your kids, and a clean house that they don't complain about doing. What's not to love? Besides, playing drums IS addictive!
